Websense & Dropbox coming to Austin?
Austin is well-known for its music, SXSW, breakfast tacos and, according to Forbes.com, has the fastest growth in tech jobs in the country. Well, we might be adding another tech company to the mix, Websense, and expanding another, Dropbox.
Yesterday the city council called a special meeting to discuss and vote on the economic development department’s suggestion to offer incentives to Websense and Dropbox. Both companies would receive a check each year for ten years, as long as they meet their performance requirements. Websense would receive $43,800 and Dropbox would receive $24,450 each year, for a total of $438,000 and $244,500, respectively, over a ten year period.
Websense, a cyber security company, would be relocating its corporate headquarters from San Diego, CA to Austin. Over a ten year period, they would create 470 new full-time jobs with an average annual wage of $82,000. Read their Economic Development Proposal Summary – Websense, Inc.
Dropbox, an online file sharing company, opened an office six months ago in Austin, and would like to expand their 30-employee downtown office.
